Undulating Periodisation

Concurrent Training

Thay vì "build strength first, then power, then sport-specific" — player train tất cả qualities simultaneously mỗi tuần: - Explosive power (plyometrics, medicine ball, sprint intervals). - Neuromuscular strength (micro-loads, isometric holds). - Eccentric deceleration capacity (braking mechanics, labral protection). - Aerobic maintenance (enough to support recovery between efforts — not primary focus).

Concurrent training nghĩa là không có một quality nào bị neglected trong tournament block — không có "I'll work on strength in the off-season" thinking.

Undulating Load — Tournament-Week Structure

Week Type Volume Intensity Focus
Preparation block (3–4 tuần) High High Full development sessions — plyometrics, strength, sprint intervals
Tournament week Very low Low-moderate Micro-Loading only — activation, no accumulative fatigue
Post-tournament recovery Low Low CNS recovery — movement and light technical work
Development block (between tournaments) High High Return to full development

Undulation means the programme adapts to what the calendar demands, not what the linear model prescribes.

12-Week Template — Ivancevic Framework (2026 Updated)

The programme adapted from the Ivancevic et al. 12-week tennis performance framework integrates three simultaneous tracks:

Track 1 — Physical Conditioning

Track 2 — Technical Development

  • Stroke technical work concurrent with physical — not separated.
  • Key principle: Technical work done under physical fatigue = match-realistic training. Pure technical work in fresh state = practice-only engrams.

Track 3 — Tactical & Cognitive

  • Neural Pressure Training — chess work, decision drills under fatigue — concurrent with physical.
  • Pattern drilling integrated into conditioning circuits (hit forehand pattern → sprint recovery → repeat).

Tournament-Week Protocol — Critical Detail

Biggest linear periodisation error: treating tournament week like a normal training week with match play added on top.

2026 standard: Tournament week = Micro-Loading only: - Day before match: 15–20 min activation, no loading. - Day after first-round match: Recovery protocol, not standard training session. - Between consecutive day matches: CNS-only work.

"The second model [standard training + match play] produces CNS Fatigue by the fourth day of a tournament."
