Ground Reaction Forces¶
Ground Reaction Forces (GRF) are the return forces created when the player drives into the court. In the manuals, GRF is the starting point of elite power: the legs do not merely support the body, they load the ground so the ground can return force back up the chain.
Core idea¶
- Drive down to receive force back up.
- Vertical and horizontal force both matter.
- The feet are the first interface of the kinetic system.
What changes in elite tennis¶
An elite player does not "swing harder" first. The player organizes the lower body so that force can be harvested and passed forward. If the legs stiffen under pressure, the kinetic chain loses its engine and the arm takes over.
Common failure pattern¶
- Poor balance before contact
- Overly passive feet
- A late upper-body save that replaces true ground-driven power
