Continental & Semi-Western Grip — Lực trong tay

Continental Grip — "SPACING"

Position

  • Index finger below
  • Support racquet handle

Cách cầm

  • Applied force downward (lực ép xuống)
  • Thumb on top of the racquet handle
  • 3 fingers support below the racquet handle

Bevels

  • 1st handle
  • 2nd knuckle on the bottom left bevel
  • Point the 1st knuckle on the top racquet top towards the opponent
  • Then, pull the racquet into the body CoG (center of gravity)
  • Palm = 3rd point

Semi-Western Grip

Position

  • Grip = applied force sideways ①
  • Top knuckle of index finger on the right bevel ②
  • A "V" grip on the left bevel ③

Cách cầm

  • Bottom index finger knuckle on the left bevel
  • ④ Thumb + 3 fingers ⑤⑥⑦ on the right bevel to counter

Force pairs

  • ① + ② = Driving the racquet
  • ③ + ④ + ⑤ + ⑥ + ⑦ = Resist or equalize the driving force
  • Forearm in line with racquet handle

Philosophy (ghi chú chính)

The correct grip is the grip that you don't feel having to adjust the racquet face angle at contact — it will happen naturally at contact and turns the racquet head from the open position to close position automatically.

So, the arm is integrated into the racquet as one unit; you just need to swing the arm naturally and the racquet will automatically find its way to meet the ball, to hit the ball, and the brain will be freed from the stroke execution details to analyze, strategize and control the match's momentum.

Phân tích

1. Cơ học (Mechanical idea)

  • "Long axis in line with the arm" + "Straight arm" + "Twist around the long axis"
  • Racquet = extension of forearm, not separate tool
  • Power từ rotating whole unit, not pushing
  • "Whip instead of push"

2. Low/High ball rule

  • Low ball = slice up (open face, brush up)
  • High ball = slice down (close face, brush down)
  • Drive = squared racquet face
  • Spin = angled racquet face

3. Giải phẫu (Anatomical idea — force pairs)

Continental:

  • Thumb presses down from top
  • 3 fingers lift from below
  • Stable platform cho slice, volley, serve
  • "Pull into body CoG" = keep contact in front but connected

Semi-Western:

  • Drivers: index side pressure ① + knuckle placement ②
  • Stabilizers: "V" + thumb and 3 fingers on opposite bevel
  • Heavy topspin forehand: index creates lag + whip, others prevent racquet from flipping

4. Tâm lý (Mental idea — automation)

  • "Correct" = no mid-swing adjustment
  • If you have to flip face at last millisecond → grip wrong
  • When arm-racquet = 1 unit, face naturally closes from open to square
  • Frees attention for tactics
