The most essential part of the one-handed backhand is spacing to a clean contact point in front of the body.
Everything else depends on that:
a full shoulder turn
a stable head
a long, relaxed hitting arm
contact out in front with the body rotating through
One-handed backhands fail most often when the player is too close, too late, or reaching with the arm instead of moving the feet and body into position.
A simple cue: turn early, set the spacing, then drive through contact in front.
