JIN / KINH - Ting, Hua, Fa¶
The Three Manifestations.
The Principle¶
Tensegrity is the structure. SSC is the engine. Jin is what comes out the other end.
Jin isn't muscular power. It's whole-body elastic force transmitted through a tensegrity structure.
The Three Types¶
| Type | Vietnamese | Chinese | What It Is | Tennis Application |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ting Jin | Thính Kình | 聽勁 | Listening — feel tension in your fascial lines, feel the ball at contact | 4ms dwell = feel face angle, spin, pressure through palm |
| Hua Jin | Hóa Kình | 化勁 | Neutralizing — absorb & redirect incoming force | Short takeback on fast ball = absorb pace, redirect |
| Fa Jin | Phát Kình | 發勁 | Explosive — snap, no wind-up pause | Push = Fa forward. Saber = Fa down & forward |
The Cycle¶
Every shot contains all three. The cycle repeats ball after ball.
1. Ting Jin — Listening¶
| What | How |
|---|---|
| Feel the ball | 4ms dwell on strings through palm fascia |
| Feel your stretch | Spiral/back line tension building |
| Eyes closed shadow | Train spindles to tolerate stretch |
If you can't feel face angle without looking, your proprioception has been leaning on vision — and that kills Quiet Eye.
2. Hua Jin — Neutralizing¶
| What | How |
|---|---|
| Absorb pace | Short takeback on fast ball = don't add force, transform it |
| Requires Q + V | Still head, quiet eyes = no fight, just redirect |
| Pro secret | They never fight pace. They redirect it. |
3. Fa Jin — Explosive Release¶
| What | How |
|---|---|
| The snap | Stretch → immediate release, no pause |
| Why no pause matters | Elastic energy dissipates as heat in ~1 second |
| Push | Fa Jin traveling forward |
| Saber | Fa Jin traveling down & forward |
The Three Jin in Action¶
| Shot | Ting (Feel) | Hua (Absorb) | Fa (Release) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Serve return (fast) | Ball speed/spin in 50ms | Short takeback absorbs pace | Block/punch, firm wrist, redirect |
| Rally forehand | Spiral line stretch | Let ball come to zone | Palm push through |
| High ball attack | Lat stretch behind | Drop in, absorb | Draw saber, edge pulse |
| Volley | Contact zone in 2ms | Firm face absorbs | Pulse forward |
| Drop shot | Face open ~30° | Absorb ALL pace | Tiny Fa — pure touch |
The Rule¶
Fa Jin alone, without Ting to feel and Hua to absorb, just makes you a ball-basher. Not a Jin player.
The Checklist¶
| Before Swing | At Bounce | At Contact |
|---|---|---|
| Feel fascial stretch (Ting) | Absorb incoming energy (Hua) | Snap — no pause (Fa) |
The Drill¶
| Drill | Focus |
|---|---|
| Eyes-closed shadow | Ting — feel every inch of stretch |
| Absorb & redirect | Hua — partner hits fast, you block/redirect |
| Bounce-drop-push | Fa — racket moving forward before ball peaks |
The Cue¶
TING: Feel the stretch. HUA: Absorb and redirect. FA: Release with no pause.
