BRAKE - Braking

The 1-Inch Pulse.

The Principle

Power was never about how far you swing. It's impulse — a short time carrying massive force. Braking IS the power.

The Physics

Impulse = Force × Time

To maximize impulse with minimal time: 1. Accelerate the body (build momentum) 2. BRAKE suddenly (stop the chassis) 3. Energy transfers to the free end (racket)

Like cracking a whip: handle stops → tip explodes.

The Two Brakes

Stroke Brake Point What Stops
Forehand Front leg + front hip Torso rotation
Backhand Front leg + chest (side-on) Chest rotation

The Sequence

Phase Action Feeling
Load Small takeback, coil Stretch in spiral/back line
Accelerate Hips/legs initiate Body moves as unit
BRAKE Front leg STOMPS, hip/cheat stops Sudden hardness
PULSE Arm/racket whips through One-inch push

The Two Errors

Error What Happens Fix
No brake Long swing, arm-only, no pop Front leg stops HARD
Early brake Push, no whip Brake AT contact, not before

The Pulse

Stroke Pulse Direction Distance Peak Force
Forehand Palm pushes THROUGH 1 inch 30ms peak
Backhand Edge slices THROUGH 3 inches 30ms peak

Never a long follow-through. The racket finishes high, but YOU stopped the motion.

The Drill

"Wall Push Pulse"

  1. Stand 1 inch from wall, racket butt touching
  2. Palm behind racket, no takeback
  3. Push wall — feel spiral line fire from foot to palm
  4. Release instantly
  5. No swing. Just push.

Then: Shadow swing → brake → pulse. Feel the stop → snap.

The Cue

"Brake hard. Pulse one inch. The racket does the rest."
