Forehand Push System

Complete Breakdown.

The Push Philosophy

The forehand isn't a swing. It's a push from behind the racket. The body pushes the hand, and the hand pushes the racket.

The Forehand CORE Map

Variable Forehand Implementation
Q Eyes park 30cm in front of front foot, waist height
V Head dead still, chin tucked, VOR quiet from bounce through contact
ROOT Back foot screws in on load → front foot screws hard on brake
8 Horizontal 8 on 45° glass. Crossover inside body = amortization
45° Diagonal glass — low behind, high in front. Push through AND up
BRAKE Front leg/hip stops hard. Torso stops. Arm whips.
PULSE Palm pushes through 1 inch. Never a swing-through.
JIN Ting feels spiral stretch. Hua absorbs pace. Fa = palm pulse.

Load Phase: As Ball Leaves Opponent

Element Detail
Eyes Soft tracking, head moving, VOR on
Feet Back foot (right) grips inside edge, arch lifts
Hips Turn away, stretch felt belly → front ribs (spiral line)
Racket Chest-led takeback. Elbow in front of body line. Wrist loose. Butt cap → side fence.

Park Phase: At the Bounce

Element Detail
Head Stops. Dead still. VOR quiet.
Eyes Jump to contact zone — 30-45cm in front, waist height. Lock. Say "park."
Body Knees bend to bring contact zone TO waist (not hands dropping to ball)
Proprioception Without looking: feel palm facing side fence behind racket? Loaded.

Execution: The Forward Swing

Sequence What Happens Feeling
1. Fascial recoil Chest fires first, pulls arm "Arm is a rope"
2. Push feel Heel of palm pushes through 12 inches "Push through, not up"
3. Tension 3/10 → 6/10 at contact (30ms) Forearm NEVER tightens
4. Face Semi-western closes slightly at inside position Never correct with wrist
4. Brake Front leg straightens, stomps, hip hits wall Obliques fire to stop torso
5. Snap Torso stopped → arm whips Palm push becomes pulse

Coach's Note

Common error #1: "Admiring the ball" — head lifts, torso keeps rotating. Brake first, then release eyes.

Rule: Feet first, hands second.

Backhand Saber: Compact Impulse

This is an even sharper one-inch punch.

Load

  • Racket close, elbow high but tucked
  • Lat stretches (back line)

Park

  • Head side-on, chin over front shoulder — never turn to net
  • Eyes jump to higher, more lateral contact zone

Execution

  1. Load tiny — racket stays close, elbow high
  2. Accelerate — back leg drives, hips open slightly
  3. Brake — front leg brakes, chest STAYS side-on (never opens)
  4. Snap — lat + tricep snap edge through. Short downward chop, 3 inches, stop.

Follow through long = no brake. The racket finishes high but YOU stopped the motion.

The Forehand Push Quick-Scan Card

Say before every rally:

ARCH → OBLIQUE → HEAD → PARK → PUSH

Cue Meaning
ARCH Feet tripod, arches lifted
OBLIQUE Back foot screw, oblique stretch
HEAD Chin tucked, eyes level
PARK Eyes jump to contact zone at opponent's contact
PUSH Chest fires, palm pushes 1 inch, front leg brakes

Fault Signals

Symptom Root Cause Fix
Balls long Head/eyes peeked early Park earlier, hold longer
Balls net Late contact closes face Contact further front, earlier swing
No power Tightened early, killed SSC 3/10 takeback, loose wrist drop
Elbow pain Tight shoulder broke spiral Loose arm — let chest pull
Inconsistent contact No Quiet Eye, contact drifts Park at bounce, hold through

The Forehand Push Checklist

  • Pre-point: tripod, head level, hands 3/10
  • Load: back foot screws, oblique stretches, chest-led takeback
  • Park: head stops, eyes jump to zone at opponent's contact
  • Execute: chest fires first, palm pushes through, front leg brakes
  • Pulse: 1-inch palm push, 30ms peak, 6/10 tension
  • Hold: eyes and head parked until ball crosses net
  • Recover: instant Hư, back to center
