Lu Response Drill

Lu Response Drill là drill defend và redirect dưới heavy feed, dựa trên Lu (Rollback) principle từ Tai Chi 8 Gates in Tennis — "yield vào incoming force, swallow nó vào core, redirect từ rooted base" — thay vì "fight back" bằng arm power.

"The 'Heavy Feed': Have a partner or ball machine fire high-velocity balls deep into your corners. The 'Lu' Response: Your only goal is to return the ball high and deep (above the net strap) while maintaining a 2/10 grip pressure. If you tighten your grip, you lose the drill. The 'Kinetic Freeze': After the defensive hit, you must freeze your posture for 2 seconds. Are you balanced? Is your 'back leg' still rooted?"

Cấu Trúc Ba Pha

Phase 1 — Heavy Feed

Partner hoặc ball machine fires high-velocity balls deep into corners — không phải comfortable feed. Pressure là design element, không phải accident. Drill chỉ works với actual heavy balls vì: - Light feed không trigger protective arm overtension. - Không có heavy feed → không có real Lu practice — chỉ có choreography.

Phase 2 — Lu Response (2/10 Grip Requirement)

Mục tiêu duy nhất: Return ball high và deep (above net strap) với grip pressure 2/10.

Why high and deep: - High above net = defensive margin — không try to attack. - Deep = neutralize opponent's next attack opportunity. - "High and deep" là Lu's redirection output — không phải winner, không phải pace, mà là strategic reset.

2/10 grip rule: Nếu tighten grip → lose the drill. - Tightening grip = arm starts fighting → Lu abandoned → Arming begins. - 2/10 enforcement buộc player yield thay vì resist.

Phase 3 — Kinetic Freeze (2 giây hold)

Sau hit, freeze posture hoàn toàn trong 2 giây. Check: - "Are you balanced?" - "Is your 'back leg' still rooted?"

Lý do freeze: Tư thế sau contact là evidence của root quality trong contact. Nếu player mất balance sau hit → root đã bị compromised trong contact — bóng trở lại tốt chỉ là may mắn, không phải skill.

Correction Feedback

"If the ball flies short, you are 'leaking' energy through a collapsed wrist. If the ball flies long, you are 'pushing' with the shoulder rather than 'yielding' with the core."

Outcome Diagnosis Fix
Ball too short Wrist collapsed → energy leaked before contact Maintain 2/10 grip through contact point
Ball too long Shoulder pushing → not yielding → linear force Increase Lu yield — "swallow" more before redirect
Ball high and deep Lu response correct — core redirecting Maintain this
Lost balance in freeze Root compromised during contact Sink weight more before contact

"Lu" vs "Hitting Back"

Response Action Kết quả
Hitting back Arm fights incoming velocity Co-contraction; timing disrupted; bóng short hoặc error
Lu Response Yield, absorb into core, redirect Minimal effort; bóng high and deep; rooted position maintained

"Swallowing" ball's energy: Khi Lu is correct, player không phải generate lực bằng muscle — họ redirect opponent's own pace ngược lại. High-velocity incoming ball → more pace available để redirect → less muscular effort required.
